Capítulo 13

1 En ese momento se presentaron unas personas que comentaron a Jesús el caso de aquellos galileos, cuya sangre Pilato mezcló con la de las víctimas de sus sacrificios.

2 El respondió: «¿Creen ustedes que esos galileos sufrieron todo esto porque eran más pecadores que los demás?

3 Les aseguro que no, y si ustedes no se convierten, todos acabarán de la misma manera.

4 ¿O creen que las dieciocho personas que murieron cuando se desplomó la torre de Siloé, eran más culpables que los demás habitantes de Jerusalén?

5 Les aseguro que no, y si ustedes no se convierten, todos acabarán de la misma manera».

6 Les dijo también esta parábola: «Un hombre tenía una higuera plantada en su viña. Fue a buscar frutos y nos encontró.

7 Dijo entonces al viñador: “Hace tres años que vengo a buscar frutos en esta higuera y nos encuentro. Córtala, ¿para qué malgastar la tierra?”.

8 Pero él respondió: “Señor, déjala todavía este año; yo removeré la tierra alrededor de ella y la abonaré.

9 Puede ser que así dé frutos en adelante. Si no, la cortarás”».

10 Un sábado, Jesús enseñaba en una sinagoga.

11 Había allí una mujer poseída de un espíritu, que la tenía enferma desde hacía dieciocho años. Estaba completamente encorvada y no podía enderezarse de ninguna manera.

12 Jesús, al verla, la llamó y le dijo: «Mujer, estás curada de tu enfermedad»,

13 y le impuso las manos. Ella se enderezó en seguida y glorificaba a Dios.

14 Pero el jefe de la sinagoga, indignado porque Jesús había curado en sábado, dijo a la multitud: «Los días de trabajo son seis; vengan durante esos días para hacerse curar, y no el sábado».

15 El Señor le respondió: «¡Hipócritas! Cualquiera de ustedes, aunque sea sábado, ¿no desata del pesebre a su buey o a su asno para llevarlo a beber?

16 Y esta hija de Abraham, a la que Satanás tuvo aprisionada durante dieciocho años, ¿no podía ser librada de sus cadenas el día sábado?».

17 Al oír estas palabras, todos sus adversario se llenaron de confusión, pero la multitud se alegraba de las maravillas que él hacía.

18 Jesús dijo entonces: «¿A qué se parece el Reino de Dios? ¿Con qué podré compararlo?

19 Se parece a un grano de mostaza que un hombre sembró en su huerta; creció, se convirtió en un arbusto y los pájaros del cielo se cobijaron en sus ramas».

20 Dijo también: «¿Con qué podré comparar el Reino de Dios?

21 Se parece a un poco de levadura que una mujer mezcló con gran cantidad de harina, hasta que fermentó toda la masa».

22 Jesús iba enseñando por las ciudades y pueblos, mientras se dirigía a Jerusalén.

23 Una persona le preguntó: «Señor, ¿es verdad que son pocos los que se salvan?». El respondió:

24 «Traten de entrar por la puerta estrecha, porque les aseguro que muchos querrán entrar y no lo conseguirán.

25 En cuanto el dueño de casa se levante y cierre la puerta, ustedes, desde afuera, se pondrán a golpear la puerta, diciendo: “Señor, ábrenos”. Y él les responderá: “No sé de dónde son ustedes”.

26 Entonces comenzarán a decir: “Hemos comido y bebido contigo, y tú enseñaste en nuestras plazas”.

27 Pero él les dirá: “No sé de dónde son ustedes; ¡apártense de mí todos los que hacen el mal!”.

28 Allí habrá llantos y rechinar de dientes, cuando vean a Abraham, a Isaac, a Jacob y a todos los profetas en el Reino de Dios, y ustedes sean arrojados afuera.

29 Y vendrán muchos de Oriente y de Occidente, del Norte y del Sur, a ocupar su lugar en el banquete del Reino de Dios.

30 Hay algunos que son los últimos y serán los primeros, y hay otros que son los primeros y serán los últimos».

31 En ese momento se acercaron algunos fariseos que le dijeron: «Aléjate de aquí, porque Herodes quiere matarte».

32 El les respondió: «Vayan a decir a ese zorro: hoy y mañana expulso a los demonios y realizo curaciones, y al tercer día habré terminado.

33 Pero debo seguir mi camino hoy, mañana y pasado, porque no puede ser que un profeta muera fuera de Jerusalén.

34 ¡Jerusalén, Jerusalén, que matas a los profetas y apedreas a los que te son enviados! ¡Cuántas veces quise reunir a tus hijos, como la gallina reúne bajo sus alas a los pollitos, y tú no quisiste!

35 Por eso, a ustedes la casa les quedará vacía. Les aseguro que ya no me verán más, hasta que llegue el día en que digan: ¡Bendito el viene en nombre del Señor!».

Chapter 13

¹ ² At that time some people who were present there told him about the Galileans whose blood Pilate had mingled with the blood of their sacrifices.

He said to them in reply, “Do you think that because these Galileans suffered in this way they were greater sinners than all other Galileans?

By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!

Or those eighteen people who were killed when the tower at Siloam fell on them ³ – do you think they were more guilty than everyone else who lived in Jerusalem?

By no means! But I tell you, if you do not repent, you will all perish as they did!”

⁴ And he told them this parable: “There once was a person who had a fig tree planted in his orchard, and when he came in search of fruit on it but found none,

he said to the gardener, ‘For three years now I have come in search of fruit on this fig tree but have found none. (So) cut it down. Why should it exhaust the soil?’

He said to him in reply, ‘Sir, leave it for this year also, and I shall cultivate the ground around it and fertilize it;

it may bear fruit in the future. If not you can cut it down.'”

⁵ He was teaching in a synagogue on the sabbath.

And a woman was there who for eighteen years had been crippled by a spirit; she was bent over, completely incapable of standing erect.

When Jesus saw her, he called to her and said, “Woman, you are set free of your infirmity.”

He laid his hands on her, and she at once stood up straight and glorified God.

But the leader of the synagogue, indignant that Jesus had cured on the sabbath, said to the crowd in reply, “There are six days when work should be done. Come on those days to be cured, not on the sabbath day.”

⁶ The Lord said to him in reply, “Hypocrites! Does not each one of you on the sabbath untie his ox or his ass from the manger and lead it out for watering?

⁷ This daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has bound for eighteen years now, ought she not to have been set free on the sabbath day from this bondage?”

When he said this, all his adversaries were humiliated; and the whole crowd rejoiced at all the splendid deeds done by him.

⁸ Then he said, “What is the kingdom of God like? To what can I compare it?

It is like a mustard seed that a person took and planted in the garden. When it was fully grown, it became a large bush and ‘the birds of the sky dwelt in its branches.'”

Again he said, “To what shall I compare the kingdom of God?

It is like yeast that a woman took and mixed (in) with three measures of wheat flour until the whole batch of dough was leavened.”

⁹ He passed through towns and villages, teaching as he went and making his way to Jerusalem.

Someone asked him, “Lord, will only a few people be saved?” He answered them,

“Strive to enter through the narrow gate, for many, I tell you, will attempt to enter but will not be strong enough.

After the master of the house has arisen and locked the door, then will you stand outside knocking and saying, ‘Lord, open the door for us.’ He will say to you in reply, ‘I do not know where you are from.’

And you will say, ‘We ate and drank in your company and you taught in our streets.’

Then he will say to you, ‘I do not know where (you) are from. Depart from me, all you evildoers!’

And there will be wailing and grinding of teeth when you see Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and all the prophets in the kingdom of God and you yourselves cast out.

And people will come from the east and the west and from the north and the south and will recline at table in the kingdom of God.

For behold, some are last who will be first, and some are first who will be last.”

At that time some Pharisees came to him and said, “Go away, leave this area because Herod wants to kill you.”

He replied, “Go and tell that fox, ‘Behold, I cast out demons and I perform healings today and tomorrow, and on the third day I accomplish my purpose. ¹⁰

¹¹ Yet I must continue on my way today, tomorrow, and the following day, for it is impossible that a prophet should die outside of Jerusalem.’

“Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how many times I yearned to gather your children together as a hen gathers her brood under her wings, but you were unwilling!

Behold, your house will be abandoned. (But) I tell you, you will not see me until (the time comes when) you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.'”

Vangelo secondo luca

Capitolo 13

[1] In quello stesso tempo si presentarono alcuni a riferirgli circa quei Galilei, il cui sangue Pilato aveva mescolato con quello dei loro sacrifici.

[2] Prendendo la parola, Gesù rispose: “Credete che quei Galilei fossero più peccatori di tutti i Galilei, per aver subito tale sorte?
[3] No, vi dico, ma se non vi convertite, perirete tutti allo stesso modo.
[4] O quei diciotto, sopra i quali rovinò la torre di Sìloe e li uccise, credete che fossero più colpevoli di tutti gli abitanti di Gerusalemme?
[5] No, vi dico, ma se non vi convertite, perirete tutti allo stesso modo”.
[6] Disse anche questa parabola: “Un tale aveva un fico piantato nella vigna e venne a cercarvi frutti, ma non ne trovò.
[7] Allora disse al vignaiolo: Ecco, son tre anni che vengo a cercare frutti su questo fico, ma non ne trovo. Taglialo. Perché deve sfruttare il terreno?
[8] Ma quegli rispose: Padrone, lascialo ancora quest’anno finché io gli zappi attorno e vi metta il concime
[9] e vedremo se porterà frutto per l’avvenire; se no, lo taglierai”.
[10] Una volta stava insegnando in una sinagoga il giorno di sabato.
[11] C’era là una donna che aveva da diciotto anni uno spirito che la teneva inferma; era curva e non poteva drizzarsi in nessun modo.
[12] Gesù la vide, la chiamò a sé e le disse: “Donna, sei libera dalla tua infermità”,
[13] e le impose le mani. Subito quella si raddrizzò e glorificava Dio.
[14] Ma il capo della sinagoga, sdegnato perché Gesù aveva operato quella guarigione di sabato, rivolgendosi alla folla disse: “Ci sono sei giorni in cui si deve lavorare; in quelli dunque venite a farvi curare e non in giorno di sabato”.
[15] Il Signore replicò: “Ipocriti, non scioglie forse, di sabato, ciascuno di voi il bue o l’asino dalla mangiatoia, per condurlo ad abbeverarsi?
[16] E questa figlia di Abramo, che satana ha tenuto legata diciott’anni, non doveva essere sciolta da questo legame in giorno di sabato?”.
[17] Quando egli diceva queste cose, tutti i suoi avversari si vergognavano, mentre la folla intera esultava per tutte le meraviglie da lui compiute.
[18] Diceva dunque: “A che cosa è simile il regno di Dio, e a che cosa lo rassomiglierò?
[19] È simile a un granellino di senapa, che un uomo ha preso e gettato nell’orto; poi è cresciuto e diventato un arbusto, e gli uccelli del cielo si sono posati tra i suoi rami”.
[20] E ancora: “A che cosa rassomiglierò il regno di Dio?
[21] È simile al lievito che una donna ha preso e nascosto in tre staia di farina, finché sia tutta fermentata”.
[22] Passava per città e villaggi, insegnando, mentre camminava verso Gerusalemme.
[23] Un tale gli chiese: “Signore, sono pochi quelli che si salvano?”. Rispose:
[24] “Sforzatevi di entrare per la porta stretta, perché molti, vi dico, cercheranno di entrarvi, ma non ci riusciranno.
[25] Quando il padrone di casa si alzerà e chiuderà la porta, rimasti fuori, comincerete a bussare alla porta, dicendo: Signore, aprici. Ma egli vi risponderà: Non vi conosco, non so di dove siete.
[26] Allora comincerete a dire: Abbiamo mangiato e bevuto in tua presenza e tu hai insegnato nelle nostre piazze.
[27] Ma egli dichiarerà: Vi dico che non so di dove siete. Allontanatevi da me voi tutti operatori d’iniquità!
[28] Là ci sarà pianto e stridore di denti quando vedrete Abramo, Isacco e Giacobbe e tutti i profeti nel regno di Dio e voi cacciati fuori.
[29] Verranno da oriente e da occidente, da settentrione e da mezzogiorno e siederanno a mensa nel regno di Dio.
[30] Ed ecco, ci sono alcuni tra gli ultimi che saranno primi e alcuni tra i primi che saranno ultimi”.
[31] In quel momento si avvicinarono alcuni farisei a dirgli: “Parti e vattene via di qui, perché Erode ti vuole uccidere”.
[32] Egli rispose: “Andate a dire a quella volpe: Ecco, io scaccio i demòni e compio guarigioni oggi e domani; e il terzo giorno avrò finito.
[33] Però è necessario che oggi, domani e il giorno seguente io vada per la mia strada, perché non è possibile che un profeta muoia fuori di Gerusalemme.
[34] Gerusalemme, Gerusalemme, che uccidi i profeti e lapidi coloro che sono mandati a te, quante volte ho voluto raccogliere i tuoi figli come una gallina la sua covata sotto le ali e voi non avete voluto!
[35] Ecco, la vostra casa vi viene lasciata deserta! Vi dico infatti che non mi vedrete più fino al tempo in cui direte: Benedetto colui che viene nel nome del Signore!”.
