Capítulo 22
1 Estaba cerca la fiesta de los Azimos, llamada Pascua.
2 Los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas buscaban la manera de eliminar a Jesús, porque tenían medio del pueblo.
3 Entonces Satanás entró en Judas, llamado Iscariote, que era uno de los Doce.
4 Este fue a tratar con los sumos sacerdotes y los jefes de la guardia sobre el modo de entregárselo.
5
Ellos se alegraron y convinieron en darle dinero.
6 Judas aceptó y buscaba una ocasión propicia para entregarlo sin que se enterara el pueblo.
7 Llegó el día de los Azimos, en el que se debía inmolar la víctima pascual.
8 Jesús envió a Pedro y a Juan, diciéndoles: «Vayan a prepararnos lo necesario para la comida pascual».
9 Ellos le preguntaron: «¿Dónde quieres que la preparemos?».
10 Jesús les respondió: «Al entrar en la ciudad encontrarán a un hombre que lleva un cántaro de agua. Síganlo hasta la casa donde entre,
11 y digan a su dueño: El Maestro manda preguntarte: “¿Dónde está la sala en que podré comer la Pascua con mis discípulos?”.
12 El les mostrará en el piso alto una pieza grande, arreglada con almohadones: preparen allí lo necesario».
13 Los discípulos partieron, encontraron todo como Jesús les había dicho y prepararon la Pascua.
14 Llegada la hora, Jesús se sentó a la mesa con los Apóstoles y les dijo:
15 «He deseado ardientemente comer esta Pascua con ustedes antes de mi Pasión,
16 porque les aseguro que ya no la comeré más hasta que llegue a su pleno cumplimiento en el Reino de Dios».
17 Y tomando una copa, dio gracias y dijo: «Tomen y compártanla entre ustedes.
18 Porque les aseguro que desde ahora no beberé más del fruto de la vid hasta que llegue el Reino de Dios».
19 Luego tomó el pan, dio gracias, lo partió y lo dio a sus discípulos, diciendo: «Esto es mi Cuerpo, que se entrega por ustedes. Hagan esto en memoria mía».
20 Después de la cena hizo lo mismo con la copa, diciendo: «Esta copa es la Nueva Alianza sellada con mi Sangre, que se derrama por ustedes.
21 La mano del traidor está sobre la mesa, junto a mí.
22 Porque el Hijo del hombre va por el camino que le ha sido señalado, pero ¡ay de aquel que lo va a entregar!».
23 Entonces comenzaron a preguntarse unos a otros quién de ellos sería el que iba a hacer eso.
24 Y surgió una discusión sobre quién debía ser considerado como el más grande.
25 Jesús les dijo: «Los reyes de las naciones dominan sobre ellas, y los que ejercen el poder sobre el pueblo se hacen llamar bienhechores.
26 Pero entre ustedes no debe ser así. Al contrario, el que es más grande, que se comporte como el menor, y el que gobierna, como un servidor.
27 Porque, ¿quién es más grande, el que está a la mesa o el que sirve? ¿No es acaso el que está a la mesa? Y sin embargo, yo estoy entre ustedes como el que sirve.
28 Ustedes son los que han permanecido siempre conmigo en medio de mis pruebas.
29 Por eso yo les confiero la realeza, como mi Padre me la confirió a mí,
30 Y en mi Reino, ustedes comerán y beberán en mi mesa, y se sentarán sobre tronos para juzgar a las doce tribus de Israel.
31 Simón, Simón, mira que Satanás ha pedido poder para zarandearlos como el trigo,
32 pero yo he rogado por ti, para que no te falte la fe. Y tú, después que hayas vuelto, confirma a tus hermanos».
33 «Señor, le dijo Pedro, estoy dispuesto a ir contigo a la cárcel y a la muerte».
34 Pero Jesús replicó: «Yo te aseguro, Pedro, que hoy, antes que cante el gallo, habrás negado tres veces que me conoces».
35 Después les dijo: «Cuando los envié sin bolsa, ni alforja, ni sandalias, ¿les faltó alguna cosa?».
36 «Nada», respondieron. El agregó: «Pero ahora el que tenga una bolsa, que la lleve; el que tenga una alforja, que la lleve también; y el que no tenga espada, que venda su manto para comprar una.
37 Porque les aseguro que debe cumplirse en mí esta palabra de la Escritura: Fue contado entre los malhechores. Ya llega a su fin todo lo que se refiere a mí».
38 «Señor, le dijeron, aquí hay dos espadas». El les respondió: «Basta».
39 En seguida Jesús salió y fue como de costumbre al monte de los Olivos, seguido de sus discípulos.
40 Cuando llegaron, les dijo: «Oren, para no caer en la tentación».
41 Después se alejó de ellos, más o menos a la distancia de un tiro de piedra, y puesto de rodillas, oraba:
42 «Padre, si quieres, aleja de mí este cáliz. Pero que no se haga mi voluntad, sino la tuya».
43
Entonces se le apareció un ángel del cielo que lo reconfortaba.
44 En medio de la angustia, él oraba más intensamente, y su sudor era como gotas de sangre que corrían hasta el suelo.
45 Después de orar se levantó, fue hacia donde estaban sus discípulos y los encontró adormecidos por la tristeza.
46 Jesús les dijo: «¿Por qué están durmiendo? Levántense y oren para no caer en la tentación».
47 Todavía estaba hablando, cuando llegó una multitud encabezada por el que se llamaba Judas, uno de los Doce. Este se acercó a Jesús para besarlo.
48 Jesús le dijo: «Judas, ¿con un beso entregas al Hijo del hombre?».
49 Los que estaban con Jesús, viendo lo que iba a suceder, le preguntaron: «Señor, ¿usamos la espada?»
50 Y uno de ellos hirió con su espada al servidor del Sumo Sacerdote, cortándole la oreja derecha.
51
Pero Jesús dijo: «Dejen, ya está». Y tocándole la oreja, lo curó.
52 Después dijo a los sumos sacerdotes, a los jefes de la guardia del Templo y a los ancianos que habían venido a arrestarlo: «¿Soy acaso un ladrón para que vengan con espadas y palos?
53 Todos los días estaba con ustedes en el Templo y no me arrestaron. Pero esta es la hora de ustedes y el poder de las tinieblas».
54 Después de arrestarlo, lo condujeron a la casa del Sumo Sacerdote. Pedro lo seguía de lejos.
55 Encendieron fuego en medio del patio, se sentaron alrededor de él y Pedro se sentó entre ellos.
56 Una sirvienta que lo vio junto al fuego, lo miró fijamente y dijo: «Este también estaba con él».
57 Pedro lo negó diciendo: «Mujer, no lo conozco».
58 Poco después, otro lo vio y dijo: «Tú también eres uno de aquellos». Pero Pedro respondió: «No, hombre, no lo soy».
59 Alrededor de una hora más tarde, otro insistió, diciendo: «No hay duda de que este hombre estaba con él; además, él también es galileo».
60 «Hombre, dijo Pedro, no sé lo que dices». En ese momento, cuando todavía estaba hablando, cantó el gallo.

62 Y saliendo afuera, lloró amargamente.
63 Los hombres que custodiaban a Jesús lo ultrajaban y lo golpeaban;
64 y tapándole el rostro, le decían: «Profetiza, ¿quién te golpeó?».
65 Y proferían contra él toda clase de insultos.
66 Cuando amaneció, se reunió el Consejo de los ancianos del pueblo, junto con los sumos sacerdotes y los escribas. Llevaron a Jesús ante el tribunal
67 y le dijeron: «Dinos si eres el Mesías». El les dijo: «Si yo les respondo, ustedes no me creerán,
68 y si los interrogo, no me responderán.
69 Pero en adelante, el Hijo del hombre se sentará a la derecha de Dios todopoderoso».
70 Todos preguntaron: «¿Entonces eres el Hijo de Dios?». Jesús respondió: «Tienen razón, yo lo soy».
71 Ellos dijeron: «¿Acaso necesitamos otro testimonio? Nosotros mismos lo hemos oído de su propia boca».

Chapter 22
1
1 Now the feast of Unleavened Bread, called the Passover, 2 was drawing near,
2
and the chief priests and the scribes were seeking a way to put him to death, for they were afraid of the people.
3
Then Satan entered into Judas, 3 the one surnamed Iscariot, who was counted among the Twelve,
4
and he went to the chief priests and temple guards to discuss a plan for handing him over to them.
5
They were pleased and agreed to pay him money.
6
He accepted their offer and sought a favorable opportunity to hand him over to them in the absence of a crowd.
7
When the day of the Feast of Unleavened Bread arrived, the day for sacrificing the Passover lamb,
8
he sent out Peter and John, instructing them, “Go and make preparations for us to eat the Passover.”
9
They asked him, “Where do you want us to make the preparations?”
10
And he answered them, “When you go into the city, a man will meet you carrying a jar of water. 4 Follow him into the house that he enters
11
and say to the master of the house, ‘The teacher says to you, “Where is the guest room where I may eat the Passover with my disciples?”‘
12
He will show you a large upper room that is furnished. Make the preparations there.”
13
Then they went off and found everything exactly as he had told them, and there they prepared the Passover.
14
When the hour came, he took his place at table with the apostles.
15
He said to them, “I have eagerly desired to eat this Passover 5 with you before I suffer,
16
for, I tell you, I shall not eat it (again) until there is fulfillment in the kingdom of God.”
17
Then he took a cup, 6 gave thanks, and said, “Take this and share it among yourselves;
18
for I tell you (that) from this time on I shall not drink of the fruit of the vine until the kingdom of God comes.”
19
7 Then he took the bread, said the blessing, broke it, and gave it to them, saying, “This is my body, which will be given for you; do this in memory of me.”
20
And likewise the cup after they had eaten, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in my blood, which will be shed for you.
21
“And yet behold, the hand of the one who is to betray me is with me on the table;
22
for the Son of Man indeed goes as it has been determined; but woe to that man by whom he is betrayed.”
23
And they began to debate among themselves who among them would do such a deed.
24
8 Then an argument broke out among them about which of them should be regarded as the greatest.
25
9 He said to them, “The kings of the Gentiles lord it over them and those in authority over them are addressed as ‘Benefactors’;
26
but among you it shall not be so. Rather, let the greatest among you be as the youngest, and the leader as the servant.
27
For who is greater: the one seated at table or the one who serves? Is it not the one seated at table? I am among you as the one who serves.
28
It is you who have stood by me in my trials;
29
and I confer a kingdom on you, just as my Father has conferred one on me,
30
that you may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom; and you will sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.
31
10 11 “Simon, Simon, behold Satan has demanded to sift all of you like wheat,
32
but I have prayed that your own faith may not fail; and once you have turned back, you must strengthen your brothers.”
33
He said to him, “Lord, I am prepared to go to prison and to die with you.”
34
But he replied, “I tell you, Peter, before the cock crows this day, you will deny three times that you know me.”
35
He said to them, “When I sent you forth without a money bag or a sack or sandals, were you in need of anything?” “No, nothing,” they replied.
36
He said to them, 12 “But now one who has a money bag should take it, and likewise a sack, and one who does not have a sword should sell his cloak and buy one.
37
For I tell you that this scripture must be fulfilled in me, namely, ‘He was counted among the wicked’; and indeed what is written about me is coming to fulfillment.”
38
Then they said, “Lord, look, there are two swords here.” But he replied, “It is enough!” 13
39
Then going out he went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him.
40
When he arrived at the place he said to them, “Pray that you may not undergo the test.”
41
After withdrawing about a stone’s throw from them and kneeling, he prayed,
42
saying, “Father, if you are willing, take this cup away from me; still, not my will but yours be done.”
43
14 (And to strengthen him an angel from heaven appeared to him.
44
He was in such agony and he prayed so fervently that his sweat became like drops of blood falling on the ground.)
45
When he rose from prayer and returned to his disciples, he found them sleeping from grief.
46
He said to them, “Why are you sleeping? Get up and pray that you may not undergo the test.”
47
While he was still speaking, a crowd approached and in front was one of the Twelve, a man named Judas. He went up to Jesus to kiss him.
48
Jesus said to him, “Judas, are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss?”
49
His disciples realized what was about to happen, and they asked, “Lord, shall we strike with a sword?”
50
And one of them struck the high priest’s servant and cut off his right ear.
51
15 But Jesus said in reply, “Stop, no more of this!” Then he touched the servant’s ear and healed him.
52
And Jesus said to the chief priests and temple guards and elders who had come for him, “Have you come out as against a robber, with swords and clubs?
53
Day after day I was with you in the temple area, and you did not seize me; but this is your hour, the time for the power of darkness.”
54
After arresting him they led him away and took him into the house of the high priest; Peter was following at a distance.
55
They lit a fire in the middle of the courtyard and sat around it, and Peter sat down with them.
56
When a maid saw him seated in the light, she looked intently at him and said, “This man too was with him.”
57
But he denied it saying, “Woman, I do not know him.”
58
A short while later someone else saw him and said, “You too are one of them”; but Peter answered, “My friend, I am not.”
59
About an hour later, still another insisted, “Assuredly, this man too was with him, for he also is a Galilean.”
60
But Peter said, “My friend, I do not know what you are talking about.” Just as he was saying this, the cock crowed,
61
and the Lord turned and looked at Peter; 16 and Peter remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said to him, “Before the cock crows today, you will deny me three times.”
62
He went out and began to weep bitterly.
63
The men who held Jesus in custody were ridiculing and beating him.
64
They blindfolded him and questioned him, saying, “Prophesy! Who is it that struck you?”
65
And they reviled him in saying many other things against him.
66
17 18 When day came the council of elders of the people met, both chief priests and scribes, and they brought him before their Sanhedrin.
67
They said, “If you are the Messiah, tell us,” but he replied to them, “If I tell you, you will not believe,
68
and if I question, you will not respond.
69
But from this time on the Son of Man will be seated at the right hand of the power of God.”
70
They all asked, “Are you then the Son of God?” He replied to them, “You say that I am.”
71
Then they said, “What further need have we for testimony? We have heard it from his own mouth.”

[1] Si avvicinava la festa degli Azzimi, chiamata Pasqua,
[2] e i sommi sacerdoti e gli scribi cercavano come toglierlo di mezzo, poiché temevano il popolo.
[3]
Allora satana entrò in Giuda, detto Iscariota, che era nel numero dei Dodici.
[4] Ed egli andò a discutere con i sommi sacerdoti e i capi delle guardie sul modo di consegnarlo nelle loro mani.
[5] Essi si rallegrarono e si accordarono di dargli del denaro.
[6] Egli fu d’accordo e cercava l’occasione propizia per consegnarlo loro di nascosto dalla folla.
[7] Venne il giorno degli Azzimi, nel quale si doveva immolare la vittima di Pasqua.
[8] Gesù mandò Pietro e Giovanni dicendo: “Andate a preparare per noi la Pasqua, perché possiamo mangiare”.
[9] Gli chiesero: “Dove vuoi che la prepariamo?”.
[10] Ed egli rispose: “Appena entrati in città, vi verrà incontro un uomo che porta una brocca d’acqua. Seguitelo nella casa dove entrerà
[11] e direte al padrone di casa: Il Maestro ti dice: Dov’è la stanza in cui posso mangiare la Pasqua con i miei discepoli?
[12] Egli vi mostrerà una sala al piano superiore, grande e addobbata; là preparate”.
[13] Essi andarono e trovarono tutto come aveva loro detto e prepararono la Pasqua.
[14] Quando fu l’ora, prese posto a tavola e gli apostoli con lui,
[15
] e disse: “Ho desiderato ardentemente di mangiare questa Pasqua con voi, prima della mia passione,
[16] poiché vi dico: non la mangerò più, finché essa non si compia nel regno di Dio”.
[17] E preso un calice, rese grazie e disse: “Prendetelo e distribuitelo tra voi,
[18] poiché vi dico: da questo momento non berrò più del frutto della vite, finché non venga il regno di Dio”.
[19] Poi, preso un pane, rese grazie, lo spezzò e lo diede loro dicendo: “Questo è il mio corpo che è dato per voi; fate questo in memoria di me”.
[20] Allo stesso modo dopo aver cenato, prese il calice dicendo: “Questo calice è la nuova alleanza nel mio sangue, che viene versato per voi”.
[21] “Ma ecco, la mano di chi mi tradisce è con me, sulla tavola.
[22] Il Figlio dell’uomo se ne va, secondo quanto è stabilito; ma guai a quell’uomo dal quale è tradito!”.
[23] Allora essi cominciarono a domandarsi a vicenda chi di essi avrebbe fatto ciò.
[24] Sorse anche una discussione, chi di loro poteva esser considerato il più grande.
[25] Egli disse: “I re delle nazioni le governano, e coloro che hanno il potere su di esse si fanno chiamare benefattori.
[26] Per voi però non sia così; ma chi è il più grande tra voi diventi come il più piccolo e chi governa come colui che serve.
[27] Infatti chi è più grande, chi sta a tavola o chi serve? Non è forse colui che sta a tavola? Eppure io sto in mezzo a voi come colui che serve.
[28] Voi siete quelli che avete perseverato con me nelle mie prove;
[29] e io preparo per voi un regno, come il Padre l’ha preparato per me,
[30] perché possiate mangiare e bere alla mia mensa nel mio regno e siederete in trono a giudicare le dodici tribù di Israele.
[31] Simone, Simone, ecco satana vi ha cercato per vagliarvi come il grano;
[32] ma io ho pregato per te, che non venga meno la tua fede; e tu, una volta ravveduto, conferma i tuoi fratelli”.
[33] E Pietro gli disse: “Signore, con te sono pronto ad andare in prigione e alla morte”.
[34] Gli rispose: “Pietro, io ti dico: non canterà oggi il gallo prima che tu per tre volte avrai negato di conoscermi”.
[35] Poi disse: “Quando vi ho mandato senza borsa, né bisaccia, né sandali, vi è forse mancato qualcosa?”. Risposero: “Nulla”.
[36] Ed egli soggiunse: “Ma ora, chi ha una borsa la prenda, e così una bisaccia; chi non ha spada, venda il mantello e ne compri una.
[37] Perché vi dico: deve compiersi in me questa parola della Scrittura: E fu annoverato tra i malfattori. Infatti tutto quello che mi riguarda volge al suo termine”.
[38] Ed essi dissero: “Signore, ecco qui due spade”. Ma egli rispose “Basta!”.
[39] Uscito se ne andò, come al solito, al monte degli Ulivi; anche i discepoli lo seguirono.
[40] Giunto sul luogo, disse loro: “Pregate, per non entrare in tentazione”.
[41]
Poi si allontanò da loro quasi un tiro di sasso e, inginocchiatosi, pregava:
[42] “Padre, se vuoi, allontana da me questo calice! Tuttavia non sia fatta la mia, ma la tua volontà”.
[43] Gli apparve allora un angelo dal cielo a confortarlo.
[44] In preda all’angoscia, pregava più intensamente; e il suo sudore diventò come gocce di sangue che cadevano a terra.
[45] Poi, rialzatosi dalla preghiera, andò dai discepoli e li trovò che dormivano per la tristezza.
[46] E disse loro: “Perché dormite? Alzatevi e pregate, per non entrare in tentazione”.
[47] Mentre egli ancora parlava, ecco una turba di gente; li precedeva colui che si chiamava Giuda, uno dei Dodici, e si accostò a Gesù per baciarlo.
[48] Gesù gli disse: “Giuda, con un bacio tradisci il Figlio dell’uomo?”.
[49] Allora quelli che eran con lui, vedendo ciò che stava per accadere, dissero: “Signore, dobbiamo colpire con la spada?”.
[50] E uno di loro colpì il servo del sommo sacerdote e gli staccò l’orecchio destro.
[51]
Ma Gesù intervenne dicendo: “Lasciate, basta così!”. E toccandogli l’orecchio, lo guarì.
[52] Poi Gesù disse a coloro che gli eran venuti contro, sommi sacerdoti, capi delle guardie del tempio e anziani: “Siete usciti con spade e bastoni come contro un brigante?
[53] Ogni giorno ero con voi nel tempio e non avete steso le mani contro di me; ma questa è la vostra ora, è l’impero delle tenebre”.
[54] Dopo averlo preso, lo condussero via e lo fecero entrare nella casa del sommo sacerdote. Pietro lo seguiva da lontano.
[55] Siccome avevano acceso un fuoco in mezzo al cortile e si erano seduti attorno, anche Pietro si sedette in mezzo a loro.
[56] Vedutolo seduto presso la fiamma, una serva fissandolo disse: “Anche questi era con lui”.
[57] Ma egli negò dicendo: “Donna, non lo conosco!”.
[58] Poco dopo un altro lo vide e disse: “Anche tu sei di loro!”. Ma Pietro rispose: “No, non lo sono!”.
[59] Passata circa un’ora, un altro insisteva: “In verità, anche questo era con lui; è anche lui un Galileo”.
[60] Ma Pietro disse: “O uomo, non so quello che dici”. E in quell’istante, mentre ancora parlava, un gallo cantò.
[61]
Allora il Signore, voltatosi, guardò Pietro, e Pietro si ricordò delle parole che il Signore gli aveva detto: “Prima che il gallo canti, oggi mi rinnegherai tre volte”.
[62] E, uscito, pianse amaramente.
[63] Frattanto gli uomini che avevano in custodia Gesù lo schernivano e lo percuotevano,
[64] lo bendavano e gli dicevano: “Indovina: chi ti ha colpito?”.
[65] E molti altri insulti dicevano contro di lui.
[66] Appena fu giorno, si riunì il consiglio degli anziani del popolo, con i sommi sacerdoti e gli scribi; lo condussero davanti al sinedrio e gli dissero:
[67] “Se tu sei il Cristo, diccelo”. Gesù rispose: “Anche se ve lo dico, non mi crederete;
[68] se vi interrogo, non mi risponderete.
[69] Ma da questo momento starà il Figlio dell’uomo seduto alla destra della potenza di Dio”.
[70] Allora tutti esclamarono: “Tu dunque sei il Figlio di Dio?”. Ed egli disse loro: “Lo dite voi stessi: io lo sono”.
[71] Risposero: “Che bisogno abbiamo ancora di testimonianza? L’abbiamo udito noi stessi dalla sua bocca”.
