Chapter 1
1
1 Peter, an apostle of Jesus Christ, to the chosen sojourners of the dispersion 2 in Pontus, Galatia, Cappadocia, Asia, and Bithynia,
2
in the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification by the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling with the blood of Jesus Christ: may grace and peace be yours in abundance.

3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who in his great mercy gave us a new birth to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4
to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you
5
who by the power of God are safeguarded through faith, to a salvation that is ready to be revealed in the final time.

4 In this you rejoice, although now for a little while you may have to suffer through various trials,
7
so that the genuineness of your faith, more precious than gold that is perishable even though tested by fire, may prove to be for praise, glory, and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
8
Although you have not seen him you love him; even though you do not see him now yet believe in him, you rejoice with an indescribable and glorious joy,
9
as you attain the goal of (your) faith, the salvation of your souls.

5 Concerning this salvation, prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and investigated it,
11
investigating the time and circumstances that the Spirit of Christ within them indicated when it testified in advance to the sufferings destined for Christ and the glories to follow them.

It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you with regard to the things that have now been announced to you by those who preached the good news to you (through) the holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels longed to look.

6 Therefore, gird up the loins of your mind, 7 live soberly, and set your hopes completely on the grace to be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.
14
Like obedient children, do not act in compliance with the desires of your former ignorance 8
15
but, as he who called you is holy, be holy yourselves in every aspect of your conduct,
16
for it is written, “Be holy because I (am) holy.”
17
Now if you invoke as Father him who judges impartially according to each one’s works, conduct yourselves with reverence during the time of your sojourning,
18
realizing that you were ransomed from your futile conduct, handed on by your ancestors, not with perishable things like silver or gold
19
but with the precious blood of Christ as of a spotless unblemished lamb. 9
20
He was known before the foundation of the world but revealed in the final time for you,
21
who through him believe in God who raised him from the dead and gave him glory, so that your faith and hope are in God.
22
10 Since you have purified yourselves by obedience to the truth for sincere mutual love, love one another intensely from a (pure) heart.
23
You have been born anew, not from perishable but from imperishable seed, through the living and abiding word of God, 11
24
for: “All flesh is like grass, and all its glory like the flower of the field; the grass withers, and the flower wilts;
25
but the word of the Lord remains forever.” This is the word that has been proclaimed to you.

Capítulo 1
1 Pedro, Apóstol de Jesucristo, saluda a los que viven como extranjeros, dispersos en el Ponto, en Galacia, Capadocia, Asia y Bitinia, a los que han sido elegidos
2 según la previsión de Dios Padre, y han sido santificados por el Espíritu para obedecer a Jesucristo y recibir la aspersión de su sangre. A ustedes, gracia y paz en abundancia.
3 Bendito sea Dios, el Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, que en su gran misericordia, nos hizo renacer, por la resurrección de Jesucristo, a una esperanza viva,
4 a una herencia incorruptible, incontaminada e imperecedera, que ustedes tienen reservada en el cielo.
5 Porque gracias a la fe, el poder de Dios los conserva para la salvación dispuesta a ser revelada en el momento final.
6 Por eso, ustedes se regocijan a pesar de las diversas pruebas que deben sufrir momentáneamente:
7 así, la fe de ustedes, una vez puesta a prueba, será mucho más valiosa que el oro perecedero purificado por el fuego, y se convertirá en motivo de alabanza, de gloria y de honor el día de la Revelación de Jesucristo.
8 Porque ustedes lo aman sin haberlo visto, y creyendo en él sin verlo todavía, se alegran con un gozo indecible y lleno de gloria,
9 seguros de alcanzar el término de esa fe, que es la salvación.
10 Esta salvación ha sido objeto de la búsqueda y la investigación de los profetas que vaticinan sobre la gracia destinada a ustedes.
11 Ellos trataban de descubrir el tiempo y las circunstancias señaladas por el Espíritu de Cristo, que estaba presente en ellos y anunciaba anticipadamente los sufrimientos reservados a Cristo y la gloria que les seguiría.
12 A ellos les fue revelado que estaban al servicio de un mensaje destinado no a sí mismos, sino a ustedes. Y ahora ustedes han recibido el anuncio de ese mensaje por obra de quienes, bajo la acción del Espíritu Santo enviado desde el cielo, les transmitieron la Buena Noticia que los ángeles ansían contemplar.
13 Por lo tanto, manténganse con el espíritu alerta, vivan sobriamente y pongan toda su esperanza en la gracia que recibirán cuando se manifieste Jesucristo.
14 Como hijos obedientes, no procedan de acuerdo con los malos deseos que tenían antes, mientras vivían en la ignorancia.
15 Así como aquel que los llamó es santo, también ustedes sean santos en toda su conducta,
16 de acuerdo con lo que está escrito: Sean santos, porque yo soy santo.
17 Y ya que ustedes llaman Padre a aquel que, sin hacer acepción de personas, juzga a cada uno según sus obras, vivan en el temor mientras están de paso en este mundo.
18 Ustedes saben que fueron rescatados de la vana conducta heredada de sus padres, no con bienes corruptibles, como el oro y la plata,
19 sino con la sangre preciosa de Cristo, el Cordero sin mancha y sin defecto,
20 predestinado antes de la creación del mundo y manifestado en los últimos tiempos para bien de ustedes.
21 Por él, ustedes creen en Dios, que lo ha resucitado y lo ha glorificado, de manera que la fe y la esperanza de ustedes estén puestas en Dios.
22 Por su obediencia a la verdad, ustedes se han purificado para amarse sinceramente como hermanos. Amense constantemente los unos a los otros con un corazón puro,
23 como quienes han sido engendrados de nuevo, no por un germen corruptible, sino incorruptible: la Palabra de Dios, viva y eterna.
24 Porque toda carne es como hierba y toda su gloria como flor del campo: la hierba se seca y su flor se marchita,
25 pero la Palabra del Señor permanece para siempre. Esta es la Palabra que les ha sido anunciada, la Buena Noticia.

4 in hereditatem incorruptibilem et incontaminatam et immarcescibilem, conservatam in caelis propter vos,
5 qui in virtute Dei custodimini per fidem in salutem, paratam revelari in tempore novissimo.
6 In quo exsultatis, modicum nunc si oportet contristati in variis tentationibus,
7 ut probatio vestrae fidei multo pretiosior auro, quod perit, per ignem quidem probato, inveniatur in laudem et gloriam et honorem in revelatione Iesu Christi.
8 Quem cum non videritis, diligitis; in quem nunc non videntes, credentes autem, exsultatis laetitia inenarrabili et glorificata,
9 reportantes finem fidei vestrae salutem animarum.
10 De qua salute exquisierunt atque scrutati sunt prophetae, qui de futura in vos gratia prophetaverunt,
11 scrutantes in quod vel quale tempus significaret, qui erat in eis Spiritus Christi, praenuntians eas, quae in Christo sunt, passiones et posteriores glorias;
12 quibus revelatum est quia non sibi ipsis, vobis autem ministrabant ea, quae nunc nuntiata sunt vobis per eos, qui evangelizaverunt vos, Spiritu Sancto misso de caelo, in quae desiderant angeli prospicere.
13 Propter quod succincti lumbos mentis vestrae, sobrii, perfecte sperate in eam, quae offertur vobis, gratiam in revelatione Iesu Christi.
14 Quasi filii oboedientiae, non configurati prioribus in ignorantia vestra desideriis,
15 sed secundum eum, qui vocavit vos, sanctum, et ipsi sancti in omni conversatione sitis,
16 quoniam scriptum est: “ Sancti eritis, quia ego sanctus sum ”.
17 Et si Patrem invocatis eum, qui sine acceptione personarum iudicat secundum uniuscuiusque opus, in timore incolatus vestri tempore conversamini,
18 scientes quod non corruptibilibus argento vel auro redempti estis de vana vestra conversatione a patribus tradita,
19 sed pretioso sanguine quasi Agni incontaminati et immaculati Christi,
20 praecogniti quidem ante constitutionem mundi, manifestati autem novissimis temporibus propter vos,
21 qui per ipsum fideles estis in Deum, qui suscitavit eum a mortuis et dedit ei gloriam, ut fides vestra et spes esset in Deum.
22 Animas vestras castificantes in oboedientia veritatis ad fraternitatis amorem non fictum, ex corde invicem diligite attentius,
23 renati non ex semine corruptibili sed incorruptibili per verbum Dei vivum et permanens:
24 quia
omnis caro ut fenum,
et omnis gloria eius tamquam flos feni.
Exaruit fenum, et flos decidit;
25 verbum autem Domini manet in aeternum.
Hoc est autem verbum, quod evangelizatum est in vos.
