Capítulo 8
La terminación del Diluvio
1 Entonces Dios se acordó de Noé y de todos los animales salvajes y domésticos que estaban con él en el arca. Hizo soplar un viento sobre la tierra, y las aguas empezaron a bajar.
2 Se cerraron las fuentes del océano y las compuertas del cielo, y cesó la fuerte lluvia que caía del cielo.
3 Poco a poco las aguas se fueron retirando de la tierra; y al cabo de ciento cincuenta días ya habían disminuido tanto,
4 que el decimoséptimo día del séptimo mes, el arca se detuvo sobre las montañas de Ararat.
5 Así continuaron disminuyendo paulatinamente hasta el décimo mes; y el primer día del décimo mes aparecieron las cimas de las montañas.
6 Al cabo de cuarenta días, Noé abrió la ventana que había hecho en el arca,
7 y soltó un cuervo, el cual revoloteó, yendo y viniendo hasta que la tierra estuvo seca.
8 Después soltó una paloma, para ver si las aguas ya habían bajado.
9 Pero la paloma no pudo encontrar un lugar donde apoyarse, y regresó al arca porque el agua aún cubría toda la tierra. Noé extendió su mano, la tomó y la introdujo con él en el arca.
10 Luego esperó siete días más, y volvió a soltar la paloma fuera del arca.
11 Esta regresó al atardecer, trayendo en su pico una rama verde de olivo. Así supo Noé que las aguas habían terminado de bajar.
12 Esperó otros siete días y la soltó nuevamente. Pero esta vez la paloma no volvió.
13 La tierra comenzó a secarse en el año seiscientos uno de la vida de Noé, el primer día del mes. Noé retiró el techo del arca, y vio que la tierra se estaba secando.
14 Y el vigesimoséptimo día del mes, la tierra ya estaba seca.
La salida del arca
15 Entonces Dios dijo a Noé:
16 «Sal del arca con tu mujer, tus hijos y las mujeres de tus hijos.
17 Saca también a todos los seres vivientes que están contigo –aves, ganado o cualquier clase de animales que se arrastran por el suelo– y que ellos llenen la tierra, sean fecundos y se multipliquen»,
18 Noé salió acompañado de sus hijos, de su mujer y de las mujeres de sus hijos.
19 Todo lo que se mueve por el suelo; todas las bestias, todos los reptiles y todos los pájaros salieron del arca, un grupo detrás de otro.
El sacrificio de Noé
20 Luego Noé levantó un altar al Señor, y tomando animales puros y pájaros puros de todas clases, ofreció holocaustos sobre el altar.
21 Cuando el Señor aspiró el aroma agradable, se dijo a sí mismo: «Nunca más volveré a maldecir el suelo por causa del hombre, porque los designios del corazón humano son malos desde su juventud; ni tampoco volveré a castigar a todos los seres vivientes, como acabo de hacerlo.
22 De ahora en adelante, mientras dure la tierra, no cesarán la siembra y la cosecha, el frío y el calor, el verano y el invierno, el día y la noche».

and then God remembered Noah and all the animals, wild and tame, that were with him in the ark. So God made a wind sweep over the earth, and the waters began to subside.

The fountains of the abyss and the floodgates of the sky were closed, and the downpour from the sky was held back.

Gradually the waters receded from the earth. At the end of one hundred and fifty days, the waters had so diminished

1 that, in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.
5
The waters continued to diminish until the tenth month, and on the first day of the tenth month the tops of the mountains appeared.

2 At the end of forty days Noah opened the hatch he had made in the ark,
7
and he sent out a raven, to see if the waters had lessened on the earth. It flew back and forth until the waters dried off from the earth.
8
Then he sent out a dove, to see if the waters had lessened on the earth.
9
But the dove could find no place to alight and perch, and it returned to him in the ark, for there was water all over the earth. Putting out his hand, he caught the dove and drew it back to him inside the ark.
10
He waited seven days more and again sent the dove out from the ark.

In the evening the dove came back to him, and there in its bill was a plucked-off olive leaf! So Noah knew that the waters had lessened on the earth.

He waited still another seven days and then released the dove once more; and this time it did not come back.

In the six hundred and first year of Noah’s life, in the first month, on the first day of the month, the water began to dry up on the earth. Noah then removed the covering of the ark and saw that the surface of the ground was drying up.

In the second month, on the twenty-seventh day of the month, the earth was dry.

Then God said to Noah:
16
“Go out of the ark, together with your wife and your sons and your sons’ wives.
17
Bring out with you every living thing that is with you – all bodily creatures, be they birds or animals or creeping things of the earth – and let them abound on the earth, breeding and multiplying on it.”
18
So Noah came out, together with his wife and his sons and his sons’ wives;
19
and all the animals, wild and tame, all the birds, and all the creeping creatures of the earth left the ark, one kind after another.
20
Then Noah built an altar to the LORD, and choosing from every clean animal and every clean bird, he offered holocausts on the altar.
21
3 When the LORD smelled the sweet odor, he said to himself: “Never again will I doom the earth because of man, since the desires of man’s heart are evil from the start; nor will I ever again strike down all living beings, as I have done.
22
As long as the earth lasts, seedtime and harvest, cold and heat, Summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.”
