Del Libro del Génesis 3, 1-8

De todos los animales salvajes creados por el Señor Dios, la serpiente era el más astuto. Un día le dijo a la mujer: “¿Es cierto que Dios les ha prohibido comer de todos los árboles del jardín?” La mujer respondió a la serpiente: “No. Sí podemos comer los frutos de los árboles del jardín, pero de los frutos del árbol que está en el centro, Dios nos ha prohibido comer y nos ha dicho que no lo toquemos, porque, de lo contrario, moriremos”.

La serpiente le dijo a la mujer: “Eso de que ustedes van a morir no es cierto. Al contrario, Dios sabe muy bien que, si comen eso frutos, se les abrirán los ojos y serán como dioses, pues conocerán el bien y el mal”.

Entonces los frutos de aquel árbol le parecieron a la mujer apetitosos, de hermoso aspecto y excelentes para adquirir sabiduría. Tomó de los frutos y comió; y después le dio a su marido, que estaba con ella, y él también comió. Al momento se les abrieron los ojos a los dos y se dieron cuenta de que estaban desnudos. Entrelazaron unas hojas de higuera y se cubrieron con ellas.

Oyeron luego los pasos del Señor Dios, que se paseaba por el jardín a la hora de la brisa, y se ocultaron de su vista entre los árboles del jardín.

Dichoso el que está absuelto de su culpa,
a quien le han sepultado su pecado;
dichoso el hombre a quien el Señor no le apunta el delito
y en cuyo espíritu no hay engaño. R.

Había pecado, lo reconocí,
no te encubrí mi delito;
propuse: “Confesaré al Señor mi culpa”,
y tú perdonaste mi culpa y mi pecado. R.

Por eso, que todo fiel te suplique
en el momento de la desgracia:
la crecida de las aguas caudalosas
no lo alcanzará. R.

Tú eres mi refugio,
me libras del peligro,
me rodeas de cantos de liberación. R.

EVANGELIO DEL DÍA

Evangelio según Marcos 7, 31-37

En aquel tiempo, salió Jesús de la región de Tiro y vino de nuevo, por Sidón, al mar de Galilea, atravesando la región de Decápolis. Le llevaron entonces a un hombre sordo y tartamudo, y le suplicaban que le impusiera las manos. Él lo apartó a un lado de la gente, le metió los dedos en los oídos y le tocó la lengua con saliva. Después, mirando al cielo, suspiró y le dijo: “¡Effetá!” (que quiere decir “¡Ábrete!”). Al momento se le abrieron los oídos, se le soltó la traba de la lengua y empezó a hablar sin dificultad.

Él les mandó que no lo dijeran a nadie; pero cuanto más se lo mandaba, ellos con más insistencia lo proclamaban; y todos estaban asombrados y decían: “¡Qué bien lo hace todo! Hace oír a los sordos y hablar a los mudos”.

A reading from the Book of Genesis
Gn 3:1-8

Now the serpent was the most cunning of all the animals
that the LORD God had made.
The serpent asked the woman,
“Did God really tell you not to eat
from any of the trees in the garden?”
The woman answered the serpent:
“We may eat of the fruit of the trees in the garden;
it is only about the fruit of the tree
in the middle of the garden that God said,
‘You shall not eat it or even touch it, lest you die.’”
But the serpent said to the woman:
“You certainly will not die!
No, God knows well that the moment you eat of it
your eyes will be opened and you will be like gods
who know what is good and what is evil.”
The woman saw that the tree was good for food,
pleasing to the eyes, and desirable for gaining wisdom.
So she took some of its fruit and ate it;
and she also gave some to her husband, who was with her,
and he ate it.
Then the eyes of both of them were opened,
and they realized that they were naked;
so they sewed fig leaves together
and made loincloths for themselves.

When they heard the sound of the LORD God moving about in the garden
at the breezy time of the day,
the man and his wife hid themselves from the LORD God
among the trees of the garden.

From the Gospel according to Mark
Mk 7:31-37

Jesus left the district of Tyre
and went by way of Sidon to the Sea of Galilee,
into the district of the Decapolis.
And people brought to him a deaf man who had a speech impediment
and begged him to lay his hand on him.
He took him off by himself away from the crowd.
He put his finger into the man’s ears
and, spitting, touched his tongue;
then he looked up to heaven and groaned, and said to him,
“Ephphatha!” (that is, “Be opened!”)
And immediately the man’s ears were opened,
his speech impediment was removed,
and he spoke plainly.
He ordered them not to tell anyone.
But the more he ordered them not to,
the more they proclaimed it.
They were exceedingly astonished and they said,
“He has done all things well.
He makes the deaf hear and the mute speak.”

Trata-se de 49 cristãos, presos em 304, por terem participado de uma Missa dominical. Foram torturados, mas não negaram à sua fé. Um deles, interrogado por que havia desobedecido, respondeu: «Sine dominico non possumus»: «Não podemos viver sem celebrar o dia do Senhor».
